6 Home Remedies for Safe Ear Wax Removal!

Earwax is produced in our ears and it is a natural product of our body which is vital for its defense. This natural protection of the ear canal stops dirt and reduces the growth of bacteria. However, earwax blockage can occur and the reasons for its occurrence are still unknown or why it happens solely in one ear.

Earwax blockage occurs when earwax (cerumen) builds up in the ear or gets too hard to be eliminated naturally. In most cases, small quantity of earwax regularly finds its way to the opening of the ear, where it is removed or falls out as new wax is produced to replace it. However, if the ear secretes a large amount of wax or if the earwax isn’t cleared, it might accumulate and block the ear canal.

In addition, people can be the main reason for earwax blockages, especially as a result of not proper cleaning like the use of cotton swabs or other items put in their ears. Instead of cleaning earwax it actually pushes it deeper into the ear often causing earwax blockage which may result in some kind of infection. Have in mind the fact that people, who use ear plugs or hearing aids, are more susceptible to ear wax blockage.

Symptoms of Earwax Blockage:

  • Earache
  • Ear sound (tinnitus)
  • Feeling of fullness in the afflicted ear
  • Decreased hearing in the afflicted ear

You need to combine equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and water. The hydrogen peroxide must not be over 3% as it may be harmful. Use: put a couple of drops of the solution into the ear by bending your head sideways. Leave it for some time so that it settles down. Then, tilt your head towards the opposite side and allow the excess solution to drain out.
  2. Saline Solution
Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon of salt with half a cup of warm water until it dissolves completely. Use: soak a cotton ball in the mix and squeeze from it several drops into the ear, your head needs to be slightly tilted upwards. You have to be in this position for some period of time in order for the salted water successfully to enter the ear. After that, bend your head in the opposite direction so that the excess solution is drained out from the ear.
  3. Vinegar and Rubbing Alcohol Solution
Use a bowl or a mug where you should put equal parts of white vinegar and rubbing alcohol, mix them well, and the solution is ready. Use: put few drops into the affected ear.
  4. Baby Oil/Mineral Oil
Use a dropper so that you put few drops of baby oil or mineral oil into the ear so that it softens the wax. Leave the oil in the ear to settle down by placing a cotton ball at the ear opening so that it reaches the ear wax. Leave the cotton ball to cover your ear opening for certain period of time as excess oil will drain out from the ear. Both oils will soften the ear wax thereby helping in its removal.
  5. Warm Water
It is quite simple, just put some clean warm water in the affected ear. Let it stay for a few seconds. After that, drain it out.
  6. Olive Oil
