|Vinegar is very often used in our kitchens, but in fact you may use this magical remedy for help in the garden. Currently there are plenty of products that contain chemicals and fertilizers for the market, but you can have the same results and save the environment and people’s health with this natural remedy and still have the same results.
Vinegar is one of the most environmentally friendly remedy which everyone can afford it. It has great amount of benefits for your garden that might blow your mind.
Here is a list of 12 uses of this vinegar in the garden:
1. Prevents pests and animals – the smell of vinegar is not favorable for dogs, cats, moles and rodents. You can spray vinegar across your garden in order to keep these unwanted visitors to your garden. Also you can soak some clothes in vinegar and place them all over the garden, but have in mind that after every rain you should repeat the procedure.
2. Clean your clay pots – these clay pots are really important for everyone’s garden especially over the summer because they keep the moisture and protect the roots of the plant. The problem with clay pots is when they start looking unattractive due to the absorption of salt and minerals from water. For that purpose you can use vinegar and make them shine again. Here is what you need to do:
– remove the crusty residues with scrubbing
– Prepare a mixture of one cup of vinegar (5%) and 4 cups of water, and place the pots in the mixture for at least 30 minutes
– In case there are still left residues you should clean them with undiluted vinegar.
3. Removes ants – one of the best and effective insecticide is vinegar. You need to use vinegar to spray affected areas in order to get rid of ants. You will need to repeat this procedure for few days in order to get rid of them completely.
4. Repels weeds – you should use vinegar in order to get rid of the weeds on your sidewalk and walls.
5. Longer life for flowers – you should mix two tablespoons of vinegar and one teaspoon of sugar in one vase. Next you need to put the flower in the vase and remember to change it every 3-5 days. This mixture will provide great source of food for your flowers and plants which will extend their life.
6. Get rid of weeds – one of the best products that will help you get rid of weed is vinegar. You should follow these instructions in order to make your garden look great: use one gallon of white vinegar (5%) and add one cup of salt, two tablespoons of dish soap and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix it well and pour it into a spray bottle. Use the mixture to spray weed all over your garden.
7. Garden insects – you should mix vinegar and water in correlation 1:3. Next add one teaspoon of dishwashing soap and mix it well. Add the mixture into a spray bottle and spray around your garden. This way you will get rid of garden insects
8. Get rid of fruit flies – in order to get rid of fruit flies you should prepare this mixture: one tablespoon of molasses, ½ cup of apple cider vinegar, ¼ cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Mix all ingredients well and pour it into a container. You should place the container hand on the fruit tree and expect this mixture to trap all fruit flies. You may use this method for household flies.
9. Refresh your acid plants – plants such as azaleas, gardenias and rhododendrons are acid loving plants. You should get one gallon of water and pour 1 cup of vinegar in it. Mix it well and water the plants with this mixture. You will be amazed by the results of it.
10. Get rid of rust on your garden tools – you just need to use undiluted vinegar. Spray your tools or dip them in the solution for few minutes, and rinse them afterwards. You will be amazed by the results
11. Fights fungus – in case you notice that your plants have dark spots on the leaves or stems, or maybe they are simply not growing well, you should know that this is due to the mold or fungus. You will need white vinegar to solve this problem and restore your plant again. You should mix 2 teaspoons of vinegar and brewed chamomile tea. Use this mixture to spray the plant.
12. Kill snails and slugs – you just need to spray white vinegar around your garden in order to get rid of the snails and slugs.
Germination of seeds
You should use white vinegar in order to germinate seeds, more specifically for moon flowers, okra, asparagus, glories and other seeds.
Use coarse sandpaper to rub the seeds. You should do this the night before you plant them.
For the mixture you need to mix 125 ml of vinegar, 500 ml of warm water and small amount of washing-up liquid. You should soak these seeds in the solution. Plant the seed in the morning and see the results of the quick grow.
